The wait is finally over. Starting today, Taco Bell will add a new vegan steak protein option to 46 locations in the Dayon, OH area for a limited time. Taco Bell worked closely with Beyond Meat to create the new Beyond Carne Asada—which mimics Taco Bell’s existing marinated steak in flavor and texture but does not contain any animal-derived ingredients.
Instead, the new vegan steak is crafted from plant-based ingredients such as vital wheat gluten and faba beans and is marinated using Taco Bell’s signature spices.
While the Beyond Carne Asada will be featured in a non-vegan quesadilla ($5.19), customers at the test locations can order the vegan steak in place of its animal-derived counterpart in any menu item.
What’s even better is that the vegan Beyond Carne Asada does not cost extra, a rarity in the fast-food space where restaurants typically offer plant-based swaps for a premium.
